Ecovillage compost toilet

In an ecovillage on the North Island of New Zealand, we designed and, together with other volunteers, built a compost toilet for the community. This was built through a system not connected to the sewer, which transforms solid human waste into compost, minimising the use of water.

In the project the structure of the building is minimized and the light rammed earth walls go from post to post leaving the wooden construction visible.

The pile dwelling system and the slope of the ground generate an accessible technical room below for the container of compost.
